Château Barde-Haut Saint-Émilion Grand Cru | 2018

Château Barde-Haut Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

This blend of Merlot(%80) and Cabernet Franc(20%) offers deep notes of currants, cherries, and plum that balance beautifully with more subtle notes of cocoa, earth, and minerality. Each glass comes with a lively backbone and rich tannins that will keep you coming back for more. Given its exceptional flavor profile, it’s no surprise that this vintage received impressive marks from a variety of different wine critics, including a 94 from Vinous and Wine Spectator.  Coming from 2018, the Château Barde-Haut Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is ready to drink today but will only improve with time. Enjoy it tomorrow or in 20 years. You’ll be happy either way.

Domaine Huet Clos du Bourg Vouvray Demi-Sec | 2020

Domaine Huet Clos du Bourg Vouvray Demi-Sec

Coming from the Loire Valley, 2020 Domaine Huet Clos du Bourg Vouvray Demi-Sec is a personal favorite of ours. Here’s what Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate has to say about this wine:

“The 2020 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec is concentrated, deep, and still somewhat untamed on the clear, fresh, and lemon-fruity yet darker-toned nose compared to the Haut-Lieu. Round and refined yet still with a pretty firm tannin structure, this is a rich and powerful yet elegant and persistently salty Chenin with tension, grip, and a sustainable, highly promising finish. The 2020 Clos du Bourg pairs juiciness with finesse and purity with complexity. Tasted as a tank sample shortly before bottling in April 2021.”

Given the glowing review, it’s no surprise he gave the 2020 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec a rating of 95. This bottle is well worth a try for fans of Chenin Blanc or white wines in general.

Château Gigognan Clos du Roi Châteauneuf-du-Pape | 2016

Château Gigognan Clos du Roi Châteauneuf-du-Pape

The 2016 Château Gigognan Clos du Roi Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a  blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre brought up in a mix of stainless steel and old barrels. The resulting wine is mellow, with rich aromas and sweet notes of berries, cherries, and cream. This wine has moderate tannins and lingers on the palate, just long enough, only to fade away and leave you wanting more. Poised to remain exceptionally balanced and worth trying from now through the 2030s, it is one of our favorite values to come out of the Rhone Valley of France.

Tardieu-Laurent Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Spéciale | 2017

Tardieu-Laurent Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Spéciale

Another Grenache Wine from the Rhone Valley, the Tardieu-Laurent Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Spéciale boasts exceptional tasting notes backed by invigorating aromas. Each bottle beautifully blends fruit and spice notes in a full-bodied yet subtle fashion, bringing to mind notes of berry, fig, licorice, and a touch of white pepper. The wine is exceptionally well received by critics, including Jeb Dunnuck, who called it “unquestionably one of the gems in the vintage.”

Domaine Huet Le Mont Vouvray Demi-Sec | 2020

Domaine Huet Le Mont Vouvray Demi-Sec

Last but not definitely not least, we recommend the 2020 Domaine Huet Le Mont Vouvray Demi-Sec. It’s exceptionally pure, elegantly balancing notes of apple,  peach, and persimmon backed by the zip of acidity that leaves each sip more exciting than the last. It’s a truly memorable Chenin Blanc, one that will age well in the years to come. Enjoy your bottle anytime from now through 2036.
