Charles Leclerc Spotted Wearing The Most Unusual Richard Mille You’ve Ever Seen

Being a Richard Mille ambassador must be a pretty sweet gig, and Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc is taking full advantage of his relationship with the ultra-high-end Swiss watchmaker – by rocking one of the most unusual watches in their collection.

The 25-year-old Monégasque racer, who drives for legendary team Ferrari and is widely considered to be World Champion material, has been spotted wearing a wide variety of ‘Millies’, such as the RM 35-03 Rafael Nadal, the RM UP-01 Manual Winding Ultraflat Ferrari as well as his own signature model, the RM 67-02 Charles Leclerc.

But the model he’s been favouring lately is a little less typical: the RM 33-02 Automatic Winding. Why is it so strange? Well, unlike most RMs, which feature an exotic array of complications, it’s a simple time-only piece. It’s also a round watch, eschewing RM’s signature tonneau-shaped case design.

In short, it’s a rather unconventional Richard Mille, precisely because it is so conventional. It’s as close as you can get to an understated RM – if such a thing is even possible. This is no simple watch, however. It boasts a skeletonised movement with an off-centre monoblock platinum rotor, a red gold baseband and a case made from Carbon TPT – an exotic material regularly utilised in Richard Mille watches that has a unique finish obtained by layering hundreds of sheets of carbon fibre.

Leclerc’s colleagues Ocon and Gasly were also rocking some pretty snazzy watches of their own as well: Gasly was wearing what looked to be a gold IWC Schaffhausen Portugieser and Ocon was rocking a Bell & Ross BR-X1 R.S.20.

You’ll be able to see these three high-rolling racers hit the track again when the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship starts up again with pre-season testing in Bahrain from the 23rd of February.
