Pele’s legacy in Qatar: 1973 Santos game was ‘a defining moment’

This week, Brazil has been dealing with news that Pele has been moved to an end-of-life care facility. Many Qataris say the Brazil legend has a special place in their hearts and it goes all the way back to 1973 when he toured the gulf with his national team 'Santos'. They stopped off in Qatar to play a game at the country's first-ever only-grass football pitch. Al Jazeera met with Sultan Al Jassim, a Qatari Journalist and football enthusiast, who was just 15 when the historic match took place. He attended the game with his brother and turned up hours before kick-off to get a good view. Al Jazeera’s Sara Khairat reports from Doha, Qatar.
