Russia claims Ukraine preparing to use ‘dirty bomb’

Russia's Defence Minister has accused Ukraine of preparing to use a bomb laced with radioactive material. Sergei Shoigu is reported to have voiced his concerns during three phone calls with his counterparts in the UK, France and Turkiye. A dirty bomb is an explosive laced with radioactive material. The Russian Defence Ministry said the war in Ukraine has a “steady tendency towards further, uncontrolled escalation”. Moscow has provided no evidence to back its claims. Ukraine has denied the allegations – with Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba calling the claims absurd – and saying Russia often accuses others of what they are planning to do.
