Armed woman breaks into Beirut bank demanding her savings

A brief hostage situation has taken place at a bank in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, when a woman and her associates took hostages at gunpoint to demand her frozen deposits and pay for her ill sister’s medical treatment, local media have reported. According to local sources, the woman managed to withdraw more than $13,000 in cash from her own account in Wednesday’s incident. Lebanon's banks have locked most depositors out of their savings since a financial crisis took hold three years ago, leaving much of the population unable to pay for basic needs, and the government has so far failed to address the crisis.
