Did Stefanos Tsitsipas Just Call Novak Djokovic The GOAT?
Stefanos Tsitsipas has been gracious in defeat, even going so far as to say he thinks Djokovic may be the GOAT…
After losing the first set 3-6, the second set via a tie break and then the third set via a tie break, Stefanos Tsitsipas gave a classy speech, congratulating Djokovic on his victory and even suggesting he thinks Djokovic is the GOAT.
Stefanos said, while thinking about what to say to his opponent: “It’s all in the numbers – congratulations.”
He also said he sees some similarities around how Djokovic is with his family and with tennis, and how he is with his own family and around tennis, and how they both “grew up around tennis.”
Stefanos added: “I think you make me a better player when I’m on the court so thank you.”
Stefanos then appeared to throw his hat into the ring on the GOAT debate (Djokovic now has an equal number of grand slams as Nadal) saying: “He is one of the greatest in our sport.” He then appeared to say: “[He is] the greatest that has ever held a tennis racquet… I’d like to thank you for pushing our sport so far.”
