US House fails to elect new speaker in first rounds of voting



The new Republican majority in the US House of Representatives has started in disarray, with hardline conservatives blocking Kevin McCarthy from becoming speaker. After three failed votes, the house adjourned, hoping to regroup on Wednesday. It is the first time since 1923 that a vote took more than one ballot.
