US judge frees Adnan Syed after more than 20 years in jail
A US judge has ordered the release of a man whose conviction for murdering his ex-girlfriend inspired one of the most popular podcasts of all time. Adnan Syed’s case was the subject of the ‘true-crime’ podcast “Serial”, that revealed flaws in the police investigation and raised doubts about his conviction. The judge vacated Syed’s conviction for the 1999 murder as prosecutors reinvestigate the case. But Syed may still face another trial as prosecutors have 30 days to demand a new hearing or dismiss the case.
