Now for the other attractions that Ontario has to offer here are the top 4 highlights of this province from someone that has lived there.

Prince Edward County

Prince Edward County is not one that is on the top of many peoples lists, but trust me you NEED to include this in your itinerary. This part which is located in the South of Ontario is known for its lavender fields, wineries, delicious food and lakeside beaches. You can spend days on end exploring the many vineyards, there are plenty of wine tours, some of them are guided bike tours. Plenty of the wineries have gorgeous tasting rooms and have some food on offer matching the wines on sale.

To complete your trip you will need to make a visit to Sandbanks Provincial Park, located on Lake Ontario. In this park, you will find some of Ontario’s most beautiful beaches. You can do some water sports like kayaking or spend the day working on your tan in the sun. Food-wise to the local Agrarian Market you can buy a picnic basket full of snacks.

Ottawa

Canada’s capital is Ottawa and it is another beautiful city. Smaller than Toronto and Montreal it is home to great historic sites, here you can learn about Canada’s history. You can visit museums like the Canadian War Museum, the Canadian Museum of History, and the National Gallery of Canada. Then there is parliament hill, famous of the recent truckers’ protests, where you can normally watch the sound and light show. Not far from it you can walk to the Byward Market, it is a farmer’s market surrounded by a shopping district with unique stores.

Winter can be fun in Ottowa as you can ice skate along the Rideau Canal. Food wise you should try the Beaver Tails, these are fried dough pastries, individually hand-stretched to resemble beaver’s tails, topped with either sweet or savoury ingredients. Another Canadian food experience is to try some of the maple syrup of which the are many syrup farms around Ottowa.

Explore Winterlude Ottawa’s winter festival and see some really amazing ice-carvings, the Annual Bed Race, the Byward Market Stew cook-off, and plenty of other great activities.

Sudbury and Manitoulin Island

Sudbury, also known as the Nickel City, is home to over 300 lakes making it a great place to spend a few days. One of the best lakes is Ramsey lake on which you can spend the day before trying out the many local restaurants for dinner. Popular restaurants are Tucos Taco Lounge, P&M Kouzzina, and Respect is Burning. Popular drinking spots are the iconic Townehouse Tavern which often has live music, and the Red Fang which is popular with locals.

For those with families check out Science North, Northern Ontario’s most popular tourist attraction and an educational resource for children and adults across the globe. For selfies check out Dynamic Earth home of the big Nickel, this is an immersive, hands-on science centre that features earth science and mining experiences.

Sudbury Ontario

Manitoulin Island is the world’s largest freshwater island and on that island, there are more than 100 inland lakes. This has to be the most beautiful part of Ontario that you can experience and learn what island time is really like. There are plenty of cottages for rent from where you can start exploring the island. Start in Little Current where you should try ice cream from 3 Cows and a Cone whilst walking along the waterfront. After that make a trip to the Kagawong to check out Bridal Veil Falls followed by a hike at the Cup & Saucer Trail. Once you get thirsty try some of the local craft beers at Split Rail Brewing and Manitoulin Island Brewing. Manitoulin Island ontario

Toronto and Niagara Falls

A visit to Ontario has to include Canada’s most multicultural and largest city, Toronto. Toronto is the most visited city in Canada and once you’re there, you will quickly see why. Its skyline is imposing with the 553.3 m-high CN-Tower, from here you can enjoy views over the city as well as Lake Ontario. You might catch a game of the Toronto Blue Jays of which the stadium is right next to the tower. No matter what time of the year you visit there is always something going on in Toronto be its fun events, amazing activities or its delicious food.

A great day trip from Toronto is Niagara Falls which is only a two-hour drive away. You can see the waterfalls up close by taking a boat ride on the Maid of the mist sightseeing boat. There is also family fun at Clifton Hill and if you are a daredevil you can take a zip line across the falls.

Niagara Falls

Wine lovers will want to make the short drive to Niagara-on-the-Lake to spend the rest of the day exploring wineries in Canada’s most active wine region. Here you can find over 90 wineries.

Ontario is a beautiful province with so many great cities. Whether you want to get out in nature and explore or spend some time in bigger cities, there is something for everyone.
